A hole in the wall

Still in Huila for a bit, I have 3 days until I leave here. I've been going to the local gym. The training I do is sport-specific as I am actively competing, so there are a lot of explosive movements, including med-ball throws (to my demise today).

So, I went to what I thought was a hard wall, because it looked identical to the load-bearing wall in the corner, to do my med ball throws. I threw the ball from chest height as explosively as I could, and I hear a massive crack, and to my embarrassment, so does the rest of the gym. Keep in mind, this is not a small gym - it's 2 floors and about the size of a warehouse. After the ball falls to the ground, there lies a perfect, half-foot deep indent of where it hit the wall. I'm shocked. I turn around, and there have to be 20+ people looking in my direction, trying to figure out what the heck just happened. If I could've in that moment, I would've turned invisible.

That is the funny thing about shame, even when something feels unforgettable to you, most people witness it briefly, laugh—or don’t—and move on. I bet every person reading this has a list of embarrassing things that they've done, or things that have happened to them, but I bet you can't name too many embarrassing things that other people have done in your presence.
