The Bohemian Wanderers of Luxor

Egypt is full of contrasts. What feels like a concrete truth on one street can be worlds away from what others are living just a few blocks over. Luxor is no different.

With older Brits and Europeans alike walking around with their eclectic scarves and hats - always equipped with a notebook and a cigarette - it's hard not to feel like I've wandered into Paul Bowles's Tangier.

But what is it about this place that calls so many wanderers to it? Even in Ancient Egyptian times, it is said that Luxor was a place that many outsiders chose to call home. Where people come looking for meaning, a slower rhythm, and maybe even a sense of the eternal.
